It would be easy to say Satan’s purpose for your life is that you die. In fact, you could claim John 10:10 which says, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.

Believe it or not, the evil one has a more sinister desire for your life. You are God’s creation. You were made in God’s image. God is molding you and shaping you to become like Christ in your character. Satan hates God, and therefore, he hates you - His creation.

Remember God’s purpose for your life? He wants you to be just like He is. Guess what? Satan’s purpose for you is to become just like he is.

How would you describe Satan? No one knows what he looks like visually, but can you describe his character? Certainly! He is selfish, greedy, hateful, angry, controlling, manipulative, abusive, envious, proud, arrogant, and on and on and on.

Here is the wild part. The more you obey God, the more you become like He is. The more you disobey God, the more you obey Satan, and the more you become just like he is. You become proud, arrogant, abusive, controlling, etc.

A single virus by itself cannot destroy a body. So what does it do? It attacks a cell and redirects the cell to reproduce the virus at an alarming rate. As more viruses are produced more cells are infected and even more viruses are produced. This is the same way Satan works in this world. He seeks to gain control of one person, then motivates that person to attack others, so they in turn become controlled, and then go out and seek more damage in other people.

Most of the Scribes and Pharisees in the days of Jesus had little to do with truth. They lived for themselves, and just like viruses they multiplied their evil onto the next generation. Jesus said, Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves (Matthew 23:15).

Satan is powerful, but believe it or not his only weapon is a lie. That is it. Since lies about God are more easily believed during painful moments, Satan manipulates his puppets to inflict pain on others, increasing the likelihood of producing more viruses for his kingdom.

The picture at the top of this page shows a cemetery, a scene depicting the end of our following the devil. Also in the picture are Fall leaves - bright, colorful, attractive. Do you know why they appear to have life? They are dead. When a leaf has its energy supply cut off during the fall season and the tree goes into a type of hibernation, the green chlorophyll is the first to go. Other pigments still in the leaves are no longer overshadowed by the green pigment, and these brighter colors in the remaining pigments are finally on display.

Amazingly the Christian life is similar. Remember John 10:10, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. When we die to ourselves Jesus who lives inside us is finally able to reveal Himself. Turns out He is our life.

So what is your choice today? Are you going to obey God and be more like He is, or are you going to disobey God and be more like the devil? You have only two options. Which will you choose?
