Finding God, No Matter How Far Away

A "JESUS" film team traveled to a remote area in central Asia, to a country that borders the Caspian Sea. It's a place where many hazards await Christians who openly declare that "Jesus is Lord."

They were using the "JESUS" film, one of the most accurate films ever produced on the life of Christ. Every word that Jesus speaks is a direct quote from Scripture. The film is the very Word of God, translated into the local language, brought to life on the film screen.

The team was venturing into the unknown, trusting God with the outcome and their safety. In route, they lost their way. They stopped, "in the middle of nowhere," hoping to re-establish their bearings. That's when a man surprised them--suddenly emerging from a cluster of trees. He was agitated, waving his arms over his head, and heading directly for them.

The team was obviously concerned. Why was anyone out this far, alone? Was he insane? Could he be a threat? The man drew closer, shouting at them excitedly.  Then they heard his voice, "You are they! You are they! You are the men in my dream! Can you tell me the truth?"

Standing there, miles from any settlement, he told them about what happened to him.  Several nights earlier. He had a dream in which he saw men coming to him. He heard a voice saying that they would bring him Truth. The dream captivated him...it was so real. He had left his home on foot and been searching for them since.

The man was agitated because he in fact recognized them as the very men in his dream! The "JESUS" film team invited him into their car and he gladly directed them to his village over the dirt roads. It turned out he owned the local tea house, the place where all the men of the community would gather.

That evening, the team showed them "JESUS," in their language, and again in the man's home. He and his whole household became followers of Christ. How much this reminds me of Acts 11:12-14. "The Spirit told me to go with them without misgivings. These six brethren also went with me and we entered the man's house. And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, 'Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here; and he will speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household'" (NASB).

Several times now this same team has returned to their village and surrounding villages to encourage and disciple the new believers.
